Research, Publication & Consultancy


Research is one of the important wings of BIBM. In response to new challenges in banking and finance, the Institute undertakes a number of research projects in selected areas in order to develop a body of banking knowledge, aid banking policy formulation and improve the overall effectiveness of banking activities.

BIBM disseminates findings of the research projects undertaken by its Faculty Members and other researchers belonging to other institutes through publishing a good number of publications. Bank Parikrama, a quarterly Journal of BIBM, is being published now regularly. In 2013, BIBM published a special issue of Bank Parikrama to commemorate 40 years of Independence of Bangladesh. Distinguished policy makers, academicians and practitioners associated with financial system of Bangladesh contributed their articles to this special issue of Bank Parikrama. BIBM also published its one regular issue in this year. A quarterly periodical of BIBM named BIBM Bulletin is also published regularly and the last issue was published for March, 2015.  Nurul Matin Memorial Lecture on Ethics in Banking, an annual event of BIBM, is also published at the time of this lecture. BIBM also initiated to publish two yearly publications named Banking Research Series and Banking Review Series which are also regularly published now. Additionally, BIBM reviews both banking sector and non-banking sector year-wise and publishes two reports, one titled Bank Review and the other titled Review of Non-bank Financial Sector. A good number of research monographs are also being published each year with a view to disseminating findings of BIBM’s own research projects. BIBM also publishes Conference Proceeding which is the Compilation of Annual Banking Conference of BIBM. In 2013, BIBM has published a book titled “Inclusive Finance and Sustainable Development” written by Dr. Atiur Rahman which is the occasional speeches of Bangladesh Bank Governor for the period 2009-2013. In 2004, BIBM has published three books titled “A Review of the Supervisory Initiatives by Bangladesh Bank”, “Trade Services of Banks in Bangladesh”, and “Green Banking in Bangladesh”, respectively.

On the request of different banks and other financial institutions, BIBM regularly arranges Recruitment Tests. In 2013, BIBM conducted a number of written exams for recruitment of Management Trainees, Probationary Officers and for promotion of different level of officers in banks. Furthermore, faculty members of BIBM are associated with a number of consultancy services relating to the financial sector. BIBM has already offered consultancy services to the Central Bank of Afghanistan (DAB) to set up a training institute over there. The project was financed by the World Bank. BIBM has also got offers from the Agrani Bank Ltd. to undertake a research project titled “Training Impact Evaluation of Agrani Bank Limited”.
