Research Workshop on “Addressing Challenges of Transferable LC in Bangladesh” held at BIBM

Dhaka, 20 November, 2019:
A half day long research workshop was held at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) on 20 November, 2019, in its auditorium. Dr. Shah Md. Ahsan Habib, Professor & Director (Training) of BIBM delivered welcome address. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Director General of BIBM chaired the Program. The program was inaugurated by S.M. Moniruzzaman, Chairman of BIBM Executive Committee and Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank.
A paper titled “Addressing Challenges of Transferable LC in Bangladesh” was presented in the research workshop by Md. Alamgir,   Associate Professor of BIBM  on behalf of research the team. Other members of the research team are Tofayel Ahmed, Assistant Professor of BIBM; Mohammad Anisur Rahman, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Bank; Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Executive Vice President of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited; A.T.M. Nesarul Hoque, Vice President of Mutual Trust Bank Limited.

A good number of participants including senior bank executives, academicians, media representatives, faculty members of BIBM took part in the research workshop.
S.M. Moniruzzaman, Chairman of BIBM Executive Committee and Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank was present in the research workshop as the chief guest. Barkat-e-Khuda, Dr.Muzaffer Ahmed Chair Professor of BIBM & Former  Professor of Dhaka University;  Helal Ahmed Chowdhury, Supernumerary Professor of BIBM & Former Managing Director of Pubali Bank Limited; Yasin Ali, Former Supernumerary Professor of BIBM; Dr. Shah Md. Ahsan Habib, Professor & Director (Training) of BIBM;  Mohammad Abu Jafar, Deputy Managing Director of Dhaka Bank Limited; Nazrul Islam, Director, BGMEA & Managing Director of Zisa’s Fashion Limited; Kazi  Iftaquer  Hossain, President of Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association spoke among others at the event.

Deputy Governor said, Garments buying houses are playing a vital role for this praiseworthy contribution of Bangladesh to the world’s apparel market. To bring in discipline and ensure accountability among the buying houses in the export-oriented apparel industry, the government of Bangladesh   issued a notification on   Buying House Rule which is very good initiative on the par to the government of the country.

In the concluding speech, Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Director General of BIBM  said, Buying Houses be rated annually based on their performance to ensure good governance.
